Learn to Sign without Spending Anything
Are you interested in learning the sign language but aren’t really sure where to start? Perhaps you are quite apprehensive to take some lessons simply because you really don’t have the money to pay tuition fees. But does learning to sign have to cost you something?
The answer is no. All you need is to be very resourceful. To help you out, you can take note of the following ideas:
1. Watch videos. Instead of watching your favorite missed programs in Youtube, why don’t you watch sign language lessons instead? There are actually a lot of good souls out there who would create video modules when it comes to sign language, and you can watch them whenever you have the time. The good thing about videos is that you will be able to pause, rewind, or forward some portions of the video. It’s like truly learning the sign language at your own pace.
2. Ask someone to teach you. Do you know anyone who knows how to sign? Perhaps you can approach him/her and allow him/her to teach you even the basics. These couldn’t be a lot, but it will surely be a good start. Both of you can set a schedule when you will start the training. Make sure, though, that you can reward him/her after you have completed the “course.” A dinner wouldn’t hurt and doesn’t have to cost you a lot.
3. Join seminars and workshops. There are a lot of organizations about sign language that would set up seminars and workshops. Their main purpose is to not actually earn money out of these, but to help spread the advantages of signing. You can take advantage of these opportunities as some of them are for free. Don’t forget to keep those reference materials that they would usually give out during these times.
4. Get some books. Do you know of anyone who has some books about sign language? If they haven’t been using them, you can perhaps ask if they are willing to give these books to you. They would normally have some visuals on how to make basic signs, so all you need to do is to copy them. Moreover, these readings may contain some tips on how to learn signing a lot faster.
If you want to really get serious with signing, you may have to save some money to enroll yourself in a course. Nevertheless, the above-mentioned ideas will eventually jump start everything for you. |
